New Fund Has Supported 3 Vocal Albums, Many More Planned

Launched in 2022, the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Fund for Vocal Recordings honors the late Justice’s love of vocal music — the music and its performers, and her support of Cedille Records.

Classical vocal recording has, historically, been an exclusive and inaccessible recorded medium for artists. Cedille artist Will Liverman says, “When I was in school, we weren’t really encouraged to record because only the famous people did that sort of thing…. It’s great that we are seeing more and more artists cultivate their own stories and narratives that they want to leave in the world.”

The projects the Fund has supported to date don’t just further the careers of the featured vocalists, they also promote and augment the artistry of diverse composers.

To date, the following vocal recordings have been released or are planned for future release with support from the Fund:
L’Amant Anonyme: world-premiere recording of the 1780 opera by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, featuring Nicole Cabell and the Haymarket Opera Company (released Feb. 2023)*
Mark Steven Doss: Welcome to my World (vocal recital album) (released May 2023)
Chicago a cappella: Miracle of Miracles — Music for Hanukkah (released Oct. 2023)*
Will Liverman: Show Me The Way featuring Renée Fleming, Nicole Cabell, J’Nai Bridges, et al. (Mar. 2024 release)*
Terra Nostra: oratorio by Stacy Garrop (Apr. 2024 release)*
Ian Koziara: Silenced — Unsung Voices of the 20th Century (Aug. 2024 release)
• Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Anima Glen Ellyn Children’s Chorus, Chicago High School for the Arts Chorus: Children’s Stories (Oct. 2024 release)*
*Includes World Premiere Recordings

The stories told through these albums are honest, vital, and human in a way that is unique to vocal music. Your support of the Fund helps us share them with audiences worldwide.

The creation of a Cedille album, from proposal to release and promotion, takes well over a year of sustained attention (often closer to two years). Ongoing support of the Fund is a way for you to help artists share these stories. Consider a monthly gift or an annual pledge. When donating online (cedillerecords.org/rbgfund-donate) simply select the “Monthly” or “Yearly” button. Thank you!
