Lawrence Rapchak is an American conductor and composer. He formerly served as the Music Director of the Chicago Opera Theater and Northbook Symphony Orchestra.


Previously Music Director of Chicago Opera Theater, Mr. Rapchak has also conducted the Louisville Orchestra, Prague Radio Symphony, and Chicago Pro Musica, and serves as Principal Guest Conductor for the Northwest Indiana Symphony. As a composer, Mr. Rapchak’s most recent work, Saetas, was commissioned and premiered by the Chicago Symphony. His music has also been performed by the orchestras of Detroit, Louisville, and Omaha. Mr. Rapchak’s opera, The Lifework of Juan Diaz, based on a story by Ray Bradbury, was premiered by Chamber Opera Chicago and released on CD by Albany Records. Mr. Rapchak is also a regular pre-concert speaker for the Chicago Symphony.
